Ravenna Michalsen is a professional cellist who also loves cats and is passionate about environmental awareness. She battled a debilitating auto-immune shutdown that prevented her from playing the cello for 8 years and slowly returned to the instrument after two stints in graduate school (once for Cultural Anthropology and once for Religious Studies).

Ravenna is an an ardent feminist and someone who believes in the power of humor to defuse, deflect, and heal.

She performs regularly with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, Ridgefield Symphony, Wallingford Symphony, and occasionally with Waterbury Symphony and the Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Divina Strings, String Serenade, and in a cello quartet.

She teaches privately and is on the faculty at Neighborhood Music School in downtown New Haven. She would love to play for you!
